A curiosity: nearly 97% of propane/LPG consumed in the United States is produced in North America. The use of propane helps improve U.S. energy security while reducing the U.S. dependence on imported oil. In 2012, propane/LPG produced in the U.S., from domestic natural gas liquids or crude oil resources, exceeded total consumer propane demand.
